The Top Ten Reasons to Work at JEA
  1. Eighth largest community-owned utility in United States

  2. JEA is a Family- and Environment-Friendly place to work
JEA has been selected as one of the Top 25 Family-Friendly Companies on the First Coast. This is our sixth consecutive win; we began competing in 1998 and have won for each of the past 6 years. This program is presented by Family Care Connections and Jacksonville Magazine as a part of Jacksonville's 14th Annual "Week of the Working Parent", which has events that honor northeast Florida's working parents and the companies helping to make their lives better.

Part of JEA's mission is not only to be a good environmental steward, but also to teach others how to do the same. And kids are some of the most eager to learn. We've found lots of ways to engage kids in learning about conservation and the environment, such as offering a variety of free educational nature programs for school-age children. We have completed construction of a new wheelchair-accessible education center at the JEA/SJRPP-owned and operated preserve. About 10,000 schoolchildren visit the Pelotes preserve each year.

JEA also works with Tree Hill, an urban nature center, to bring the natural world closer to city kids. The center serves more than 10,000 kids and teachers each year.

  3. JEA is a Gold Wellness Workplace
The Safety and Health Department at JEA works to create a culture of wellness within JEA and SJRPP. This results in measurable improvements in healthy lifestyles, personal conditioning, and a safe and well workplace. JEA provides this environment through education, screening and the implementation of health promotion programs for our employees, retirees and their families.

Some examples of services available to employees are free cholesterol, blood sugar and overall health screenings. Programs on diet, exercise and anti-tobacco are offered to improve the overall health of our employees.
