JEA's Electric Services

Today, JEA is the largest community-owned utility in Florida and the eighth largest in the United States. We are committed to our purpose—to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve, with a spirit that has united our business for 109 years.

JEA has a goal to be the best utility provider in the nation. When we asked our customers what the most important element of being the best provider was, you told us—reliability. We have taken your input very seriously. And we’re working hard to meet your expectations and to improve our reliability.

Here’s how:

  • JEA is using thermography—video that can actually see hot spots in wires, connections and transformers—to inspect equipment for potential faults and fix them before they fail.
  • JEA is replacing decades-old direct buried cable with cable in conduit at substations and in neighborhoods to improve reliability.
  • JEA is expanding its Distribution Automation System which helps to minimize the number of customers who are affected by an outage.
  • JEA has instituted a new systematic inspection program for our larger transformers which will help to eliminate problems before they can cause an outage.

So, although we still haven’t figured out a way to control the weather or to totally prevent trees and squirrels from causing power outages, we’re doing everything else we can to make sure you have power when you want it.
