JEA Hosts State-Wide Lineman Competition

Jacksonville, FL - Linemen teams from around the state are competing this weekend at the Florida Municipal Electric Association’s (FMEA) 13th Annual Florida Lineman Competition.
More than 100 Journeyman linemen teams and individual apprentices will be competing Saturday, April 20, at the JEA Southbank Site (free parking at the School Board Building) at 801 Broadcast Place. Opening ceremonies begin at 7:45 a.m. The competition starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 2 p.m.
This annual FMEA event assembles the best of the best from around the southeastern United States to test skills in a timed setting emphasizing safety, excellence and honor. Events include: cross arm change out, rope toss, cutout replacement and the very popular hurt man rescue.
In addition to the competition, this free family-friendly event will have games for the kids and food vendors. Spectators are welcome to come and watch as these skilled craftsmen display the best work practices and safety in the field.
Sixteen JEA journeyman linemen and eight apprentices are competing this year.
