Project Objective

A contractor (JB Coxwell Contracting, Inc.) working for JEA recently completed a construction project in the downtown area to replace and upgrade the sanitary sewer infrastructure on portions of State Street, Union Street, and Liberty Street.

The work was completed ahead of a future Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) resurfacing and roadway project (proposed to start in late 2015/early 2016) which will also include additional JEA water main installations. This new infrastructure will provide better system reliability for JEA customers in the area and allow for future growth in our community.

JEA installed a new sanitary sewer gravity and force mains on portions of State Street and Union Street from Main Street to Liberty Street. JEA constructed a new sanitary sewer pump station at the JEA property located in the 800 block of Liberty Street. JEA also installed a sanitary sewer force main from the new pump station to an existing connection point located in the 1000 block of Liberty Street near the Centennial Townhomes.

Restoration of the Project Area and Paving

Restoration of the project area will begin after the sewer mains have been installed. Upon completion of the project, any existing grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to their pre-construction condition. FDOT will schedule the final milling, resurfacing and striping of this area following the future roadway project. The final restoration and paving by FDOT is estimated to be completed in Spring 2017. FDOT project dates listed are per FDOT 5 year program and are subject to change.
