JEA’s Solar Energy Landscape
JEA has been producing solar energy since the 1990s. Currently, JEA receives clean energy from 8 solar facilities across Northeast Florida, with capacities ranging from 1 megawatt (MW) to 12 MW.
How Solar Energy Works
- Light hits the solar panels and the solar energy is converted into direct current (DC) electricity.
- The DC flows from the panels into power inverters to be converted into alternating current (AC) electricity, that can be used by our customers.
- The AC electricity is collected using cables and delivered to a central electrical substation, where it passes through a power transformer.
- The electricity travels through transformers and the voltage is boosted for delivery onto the transmission lines.
- Clean, renewable solar electricity is delivered to our customers’ homes and businesses.
