Union Employees Donate to Help Neighbors
2020-06-24
Jacksonville, FL - JEA employees work around the clock to keep your lights on and water flowing. Now one group, NE Florida United, is stepping up to ensure customers stay connected in a different way. The purpose of NE Florida United (NEFU) is to improve the lives of the working men and women in Northeast Florida.
NE Florida United includes the employees within JEA's five labor unions who have collectively donated $18,000 to support JEA's Neighbor to Neighbor Fund, a community-based utility bill assistance program that helps customers facing short-term financial challenges, such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. NE Florida United includes JEA Professional Employees' Association (which donated an additional direct $5000 contribution to Neighbor to Neighbor); American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Florida Council 79, Local 429; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2358; JEA Supervisor's Association; Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA) - AFL-CIO (Northeast Florida Public Employees' Local 630). The total donation from the unions is $23,000.
The JEA union leadership hopes that these contributions encourage all JEA employees, as well as all other community partners, to donate to the Neighbor to Neighbor fund. To do this, just send your check payable to United Way of Northeast Florida (with "JEA Neighbor to Neighbor" on the memo line) to United Way of Northeast Florida, Jessie Ball duPont Center, 40 E. Adams St., Suite 200, Jacksonville, FL 32202. JEA customers can also enroll in monthly contributions through their JEA bills for as little as $5 per month. Learn more and sign up at jea.com/neighbor.
