Appliances

Household appliances can be a major source of water consumption in your home. Following these tips will help you get the most out of your appliances without sacrificing savings.

  • Only wash full loads of laundry and use cold water when possible.
  • Use small load setting on washing machine when appropriate.
  • Only run your dishwasher when it’s full and use the air-dry option, if available. When hand-washing dishes, avoid letting the water run.

If you're interested in upgrading your appliances to newer, more efficient options, we're here to help with that too. Visit our Rebates page to view a full list of available rebates to help you save money on your appliance purchase and reduce utility costs over time.

Toilets

Toilets

On average, toilets account for nearly a third of your home’s indoor water use and are a common location for leaks. Check out these tips to reduce your water use and avoid flushing your hard-earned money down the drain.

  • Water leaks, especially in running toilets, are the #1 reason customers see their consumption increase. Identify and fix any running toilets.
  • Check the rubber flapper in your toilet tank to ensure it forms a tight seal to keep water from leaking into the bowl. Leaks can increase your water bill by 50% or more. This fix is a BIG water saver.
  • Avoid using cleaning tablets in the toilet tank—they can corrode the rubber flapper causing leaks.
  • When replacing toilets, choose a WaterSense labeled model. They can reduce water consumption for the average family by up to 60%, saving you nearly $140 per year or $2,900 over the course of a single toilet’s lifetime.

Faucets and Showers

Inefficient or leaking faucets and showers can waste a lot of water. Use these tips to reduce your water consumption and help lower your bill.

  • Repair leaky or dripping faucets.
  • Use high-efficiency, low-flow showerheads.
  • Install high-efficiency faucet aerators on all kitchen and bathroom sinks.
  • Choose a shower over of a bath. A 10-minute shower with a low-flow shower head can use less water than a full bath.
  • Turn off the water when brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or shaving.
Outdoor

Outdoor

Outdoor water use can add up quickly, especially during the warmer months in Florida. You can reduce water consumption by making a few simple changes, all while keeping your landscape healthy. Check out these tips to save water outdoors and create a more sustainable yard.

  • When using water outdoors, use a shutoff hose nozzle or turn the water off when you're not using it.
  • When landscaping or gardening, choose Florida native, drought tolerant plants.
  • Include mulch to help reduce evaporation from the soil and minimize water loss.
  • Group plants with similar water needs to help make your irrigation more efficient and targeted.
