University of North Florida Electric Reliability Project
Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2024-09-09
Normal work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Project Objective
JEA contractor crews (Heart Utilities) installed new underground electric infrastructure to add an additional circuit that will serve the University of North Florida and surrounding areas. This work will accommodate future growth in the area and provide for better power quality and reliability.
This work included the installation of new electric main feeder line, protective conduit, and electric manholes along the project route. The contractor installed the new conduit with a technique called horizontal directional drilling (HDD). HDD requires very little excavation, reduces construction duration, and is less disruptive to the surrounding community.
Construction Conditions
Construction primarily occurred in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements.
Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area typically begins 2-3 weeks after the work has been completed. Any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
