JEA H2.0 Purification Center Earns Florida Green Building Coalition Silver Certification

2026-02-05

Jacksonville, FL - The JEA H2.0 Purification Center has officially earned Silver-level certification from the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), recognizing the facility’s sustainable design, construction practices, and long-term operational efficiency.

The H2.0 Purification Center achieved 150 points, exceeding the 104 points required for certification under FGBC’s Florida Green Commercial Building Standard. The certification underscores JEA’s commitment to sustainability—not only through the innovative H2.0 water purification program, but also in how the facility itself was designed and built.

“This recognition reflects JEA’s commitment to sustainability in everything we do—from delivering innovative water solutions to ensuring the facilities that support them are built responsibly and efficiently,” said Vickie Cavey, JEA Managing Director and CEO. “The H2.0 Purification Center demonstrates how smart, sustainable design can reduce environmental impacts, support employee well-being, and deliver long-term value to our customers and community.”

Rob Zammataro, JEA Chief Water Systems Officer, added, “Designing the H2.0 Purification Center to meet Florida Green standards allows us to operate more efficiently while supporting a healthier work environment for our employees. These design choices help reduce long-term operating and maintenance costs, strengthen system resilience, and ensure we continue delivering high-quality water services for years to come.”

FGBC’s Florida Green certification recognizes projects that reduce negative environmental impacts, improve occupant health and well-being, and lower operating and maintenance costs. According to the World Green Building Council, green buildings deliver measurable benefits including reduced operating expenses, improved productivity, faster return on investment, and enhanced organizational reputation.

The H2.0 Purification Center certification further aligns with JEA’s mission to deliver reliable and sustainable utilities while providing value to the communities it serves. The Florida Green Silver designation adds to JEA’s growing portfolio of sustainability-driven infrastructure investments across Northeast Florida.

FGBC will formally recognize the project through an upcoming project spotlight and news announcement, with an official certificate presentation to follow.
