Project Objective

JEA contractor crews (Heart Utilities) will soon be working in the area to install new underground electric infrastructure along Airport Road from the JEA substation facility located at 14153 Urn Road to Ranch Road. This work is being completed to to add an additional circuit that will serve the surrounding areas. When completed, this work will accommodate future growth in the area and provide for better power quality and reliability.

This work includes the installation of new electric main feeder line, protective conduit, and electric manholes along the project route. Once the new manholes have been installed, the contractor will install the new conduit with a technique called horizontal directional drilling (HDD). HDD requires very little excavation, reduces construction duration, and is less disruptive to the surrounding community. Once the conduit is installed, JEA contractor crews will then return to install the new electric cables.

Construction Conditions

Work will occur along the City of Jacksonville rights-of-ways and utility easements. Customers in the work area can expect equipment to be set-up in and around the immediate work site, as well as large trucks parked along the street and in the rights-of-way during construction. Customers may experience some detours and lane closures around the work area while this work is in progress. Traffic control personnel may be utilized to help direct traffic around the construction area.

Residents, businesses and/or business patrons will be provided access and will be permitted to drive (with caution) through the work area. There may be times when driveways are temporarily blocked while crews are working in the immediate area. Crews will provide advanced notice to allow time to move vehicles prior to blocking any driveways/entryways. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site.

Planned Power Outages

Customers may experience brief power outages because of this work. Customers will be notified prior to any prolonged (more than 1 hour) planned electric outages.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin soon after the project has been completed. Any existing grass, sprinklers, pavement, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
