Dunn Avenue Sewer Improvement Project

Estimated Dates & Work Schedule

Anticipated Start Date: 2017-01-09
Anticipated End Date: 2017-08-31

Start and completion dates are subject to change and in some circumstances extended hours and weekend work may occur. Crews will not be working on holidays observed by the City of Jacksonville.

Project Objective

The purpose of this project is to replace a portion of the aging sanitary sewer infrastructure that serves the area neighborhood. These pipes have reached the end of their service lives and need to be proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and prevent any future sewer main breaks. This project also includes a sewer main extension that can be used for additional sewer capacity for future development in the area.

This work will include the installation of approximately 9,800 linear feet of sanitary sewer force main. Sanitary sewer force mains are pressurized sewer pipes used to transport sewage to JEA wastewater treatment plants.

Areas/Roads Affected

The sewer force main will extend along Dunn Avenue then cross over to the JEA electric transmission line corridor to connect into an existing sewer main located at Lem Turner Road just south of the Lem Turner/I-295 intersection. Please see the map to the right for additional details.

Construction Conditions

Construction will primarily occur in JEA, City of Jacksonville and Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) rights of way, roads and easements. The contractor may be required to temporarily close portions of roads to thru-traffic to complete the installation of the new sewer force main. These closures are necessary for the both the safety of the workers and the general public.

Residents who reside within the project boundaries will be provided access to their homes and are permitted to drive (with caution) within the construction area. There will be times during the day when customers may have limited access when the contractor is working directly in front of homes or businesses. In addition, sections of driveways may be required to be removed and replaced to install the pipe. Residents and business owners will be notified in advance by crews to allow for removal of vehicles prior to driveway construction. This project will not impact your normal water or sewer services.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the new sewer force main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
