Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2014-04-30
This project has been completed. Below is the information that was provided to customers prior to the project start date.
Roads Affected
Project Objective
JEA crews are working to upgrade our electric service to neighborhood homes and businesses. When completed, this work will increase the amperage capacity of the power lines, thereby reducing chances of overloading the circuit which can lead to unplanned power outages. The new upgraded feeder will be able to handle three times the capacity as the old feeder.
JEA’s tree trimming crews have also been busy removing vegetation and trimming tree limbs away from main power lines to reduce outages which usually occur on stormy or windy days.
In addition, JEA will also be replacing any old or deteriorated power poles along the project route as well as installing new fiber-glass cross-arms, brackets for insulators, fuses, and transformers which will also provide for better power quality and reliability.
These new facilities will protect against birds and squirrels which are often the cause of many unplanned power outages. JEA will not be doing any work at individual electric meters.
Construction Conditions
Customers will notice locate paint marks and flags on the ground throughout the project area. These locate marks assist our crews in locating the existing underground utilities prior to the start of any work. Between 5-8 large utility trucks will be used depending on the planned work activity. The power poles will be temporarily dropped off or staged in the public right of way portion of your yard until they can be installed.
Some poles may need to be relocated 4 feet (at a minimum) from the edge of the road, curb or sidewalk for the safety of drivers, while also keeping at least 36 inches of sidewalk available for pedestrians. This “safety or clear zone” is required by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and City of Jacksonville (COJ).
Once the poles have been placed in the ground, crews will then install the equipment on the poles followed by pulling the new electric wires between the new poles. JEA will leave the old power poles in place until AT&T and Comcast can move their equipment over to the new poles. Once this work occurs, JEA will return to remove the old poles.
JEA may require some detours and lane closures while this work is completed. Any roads, curb, grass, driveway, sidewalk, or sod unintentionally damaged during construction will be replaced at the end of the project.
