Project Objective

A contractor working for JEA (Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc.) replaced a sanitary sewer manhole located in the sidewalk area near 3501 Emerson Street. Failures to sewer manholes can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues. This project will increase the reliability of the sewer system in the area.  

Paving Update - November 8, 2021

A contractor working for JEA (Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc.) has completed work in your neighborhood to replace a failing sanitary sewer manhole located in the sidewalk area near 3501 Emerson Street. This project was necessary to increase the reliability of the sewer system in the area. Failures to sewer manholes can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.

JEA’s contractor will be returning to complete permanent paving and striping of the project area. For the safety of our crews and the general public, we paving crews will be required to temporarily close the right turn lane and on-ramp to I-95 north at Emerson Street while paving operations are completed. One lane eastbound on Emerson Street will remain open to traffic. Pedestrians will be able to cross Emerson Street at both Spring Park Road and Copper Circle to utilize sidewalks.

*Dates are weather permitting and highly subject to change. In the event of poor weather, paving will be rescheduled for Thursday, November 11th.

Residents, businesses and business patrons who reside or have business in the project area will still have access to their homes or business.

Please observe all construction signs, detours, and general directions provided by the crews working on-site. We encourage drivers to take alternate routes when available and plan ahead for minor traffic delays.

Message boards will be placed in the area prior to the work to alert motorists of the temporary closure. Please see the work area and detour map below.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area began after the sewer manhole was installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
