Project Objective

JEA crews repaired a failing sanitary sewer line located on N. Bay Street near the intersection of N. Bay Street and N. Lee Street. The existing sewer line had reached the end of its useful service life and had to be proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and to prevent any future sewer main breaks. Failures to sewer lines can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.

Construction Conditions

Construction primarily occurred in the City of Jacksonville rights of way, roads and easements. Crews were required to temporarily close portions of area roads to thru-traffic to complete the installation of the new sewer line. These closures were necessary for the both the safety of the workers and the general public.

Project Area and Detour Map

For the safety of our crews and the general public, we were required to temporarily close and detour traffic on N. Bay Street between Myrtle Avenue and Johnson Street while this work was being completed (see work area and detour map below).

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will typically begin 2-3 weeks after the new sewer main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction are returned to pre-construction condition.
