Southside Estates Electric Improvement Project
Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2020-10-16
Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
NOTE: Start and completion dates are subject to change and in some circumstances, occasional night and weekend work hours may be necessary. Crews will not be working on JEA Holidays.
Project Objective
JEA crews replaced the existing electric transmission poles in the Southside Estates area between Southside Boulevard and Saint Johns Bluff Road. These poles were reaching the end of their service lives and had to be proactively replaced to ensure the safety and reliability of the electric service in the area. When completed, this project will provide our customers with improved electric reliability. JEA will not be doing any work at the individual electric meters that serve homes or businesses.
Construction Conditions
There will be heavy construction equipment located along the transmission line path (please see map of work area below). Most of the equipment and work will take place near each pole installation site within the City of Jacksonville rights of way and easements. During the pole installations, there will be large escorted trucks entering and leaving to drop off transmission poles at each installation site. A crane will also be positioned at each pole installation location. During the conductor installation, dollies (a type of pulley) will be installed on each insulator to allow for wire to be strung from one pole to the next. Bucket trucks will be positioned at poles being worked on. Sagging and tensioning equipment will be used to pull conductors/wires into place.
JEA may require some detours and lane closures while this work is completed. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office may be utilized to help direct traffic around the construction area. Any roads, curb, grass, driveway, sidewalk, or sod unintentionally damaged during construction will be replaced at the end of the project.
