Project Update

Working with the City of Jacksonville (COJ), Councilman Jones and being sensitive to the concerns voiced by many customers at the Town Hall meetings over the past few months, JEA was able to receive a minor modification from the "clear zone" safety requirement that the power poles be located at least 4 feet from the edge of the curb when installing new poles.

This modification has allowed JEA to relocate the new poles back into the grass area between the sidewalk and the curb. JEA has completed a plan for the installation of the poles into their final positions and has received approval from the COJ to move forward with the final project.

Thanks again to those who participated in the meetings and most of all, for your patience while JEA improves your overall electric service and reliability.

Planned Power Outages

Customers will experience brief power outages as a result of this work. JEA crews will be required to temporarily shut off power to each individual home to switch each electric service over to the new power line. Customers will be notified prior to any prolonged (more than 1 hour) planned electric outages.

What Can I Expect During Constrution?

Customers will first notice locate paint marks and flags on the ground throughout the project area. These locate marks assist our crews in locating the existing underground utilities prior to the start of any work. Between 5-8 large utility trucks will be used depending on the planned work activity. JEA may require some detours and lane closures while this work is completed. The power poles will be temporarily dropped off or staged in the public right of way portion of your yard until they can be installed.

Once the poles have been placed in the ground, crews will then transfer the equipment on the old poles over to the new poles followed by pulling the electric wires between the new poles.

This new work will require there to be 3 different poles at each pole location (temporarily), until all the different utilities (JEA, Comcast, AT&T) are transferred to the newly installed pole. It should be noted that JEA does not control the timeline or schedule for the transfer of secondary utilities. This work is scheduled independently by Comcast and AT&T work crews.

Once all the utilities have been successfully transferred to the new poles, 2 of the 3 poles will be removed by JEA. Any roads, curb, grass, driveway, sidewalk, or sod unintentionally damaged during construction will be replaced at the end of the project.
