Van Gundy Road Sewer Improvement Project

Estimated Dates & Work Schedule

Anticipated Start Date: 2017-02-27
Anticipated End Date: 2017-06-30

This project has been completed. Below is the information provided to customers prior to the project start date. The completion date does not include final restoration of the project area.

Project Objective

JEA crews will be installing a new 6-inch sewer force main along Van Gundy Road from Restlawn Drive to Champlain Road. This sewer line will replace the existing sewer force main which has reached the end of its service life. Force mains are pressurized pipes used to transport sewage to wastewater treatment plants.

Project Update - April 30, 2017

Due to unforeseen circumstances impacting construction, the project completion date has been extended to June 30, 2017. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Construction Conditions

Construction will occur in the City’s streets, rights-of-way and easements. The crew will be required to block one traffic lane during the drilling process. Every effort will be made to ensure the flow of traffic is properly maintained. Detour signs will be posted to guide vehicles around the construction area. For the safety of our crews and the general public, please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crew.

The new sewer line will be installed using the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) method of construction which will require very little excavation work and be less disruptive to the surrounding community.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the force main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
