W. 6th Street Water Improvement Project

As part of the Galvanized Pipe Replacement Program to modernize more than 200 miles of JEA’s existing potable water distribution system, JEA crews will soon begin a project to replace and upgrade portions of the water lines on W. 6^th Street from Detroit Street to Huron Street, W. 7^th Street from Detroit Street to Huron Street, and Detroit Street from W. 5^th Street to W. 7^th Street. 

These pipes are approaching the end of their useful service lives and are being proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the JEA water system in the area. This work will also include the installation of six (6) new fire hydrants along the project route. When completed, this project will provide increased water pressure, enhanced fire protection and improved system reliability. 

Construction will primarily occur in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and easements. 

For the safety of crews and the public, we will be required to temporarily close and detour traffic around the work area when crews are actively working to install the new water lines. Please see the work area map below.  

Residents, businesses and business patrons will have access and will be permitted to drive (with caution) within the project area. There will be times when driveway access is limited while crews are working directly in front of homes and businesses. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by this construction work.
