W. 6th Street Water Improvement Project

Project Objective
As part of the Galvanized Pipe Replacement Program to modernize more than 200 miles of JEA’s existing potable water distribution system, JEA crews are continuing a project to replace and upgrade portions of the water lines on W. 6th Street from Detroit Street to Huron Street, W. 7th Street from Detroit Street to Huron Street, and Detroit Street from W. 5th Street to W. 7th Street.
These pipes are approaching the end of their useful service lives and are being proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the JEA water system in the area. This work will also include the installation of six (6) new fire hydrants along the project route. When completed, this project will provide increased water pressure, enhanced fire protection and improved system reliability.
Construction Areas
Construction will primarily occur in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and easements.
Nightly Road Closures on Huron Street - January 28th -30th
For the safety of crews and the public, we will be required to temporarily close and detour traffic nightly, for two consecutive nights, on Huron Street from W. 5th Street to W. 7th Street to complete work required for this project. Please see the work area map below. This work is being completed overnight to avoid peak traffic periods. However, the road will be reopened each day, allowing normal traffic flow during daytime hours.

Nightly Work Hours: 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.*

Residents, businesses, and business patrons will have access and will be permitted to drive (with caution) around the project area. There will be times when driveway access is limited while crews are working directly in front of homes and businesses. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by this construction work.
Planned Water Outages
Some customers may experience minor interruptions to their water service. JEA will notify customers at least 48-hours prior to any planned water outages.
Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area will begin soon after the project has been completed. Any existing grass, sprinklers, pavement, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
