The Weather Effect

During extreme temperatures, your HVAC system becomes the hardest-working appliance in your home. The extra strain on your system can lead to significantly higher energy use, resulting in higher utility bills.

The Impacts of Weather

  • Extreme Heat: During extreme heat your AC system runs more frequently and for longer periods, especially if your system is older or not properly maintained. The lower your thermostat setting, the longer your system will run which increases your consumption and bill.
  • Extreme Cold: Heating systems have to work overtime to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature during periods of extreme cold. Poor insulation or air leaks can make your system work even harder. Plus, if you increase your thermostat by more than 2 degrees at a time your system's heat strips may turn on causing significant electric spikes.
  • Humidity: Florida’s high humidity levels make your home feel warmer than it actually is. To stay comfortable, your AC has to run longer and work harder to remove both heat and moisture from your home. This extra work by your system not only causes increased consumption, it can cause increases in your bill.
