Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t the aerator fit on my faucet?
The old washer for the aerator you removed may still be in the pipe. Check with your finger and remove it if it's still there. Also, your new aerators need to be installed using the outside threads on a female pipe. If your existing pipe is in the male configuration, simply remove the large outer rubber washer, leaving the small washer in the aerator, and use the inner threads on the aerator to install it on the male pipe.
How much will I save with my new water-efficient showerhead and aerators?
Depending on how many pieces of hardware you install and the number of people in your household, the estimated savings are 12-22 cents each day, or over $40 per year, for each person who lives in your home. Savings estimates are based on calculations from epa.gov and energy.gov. Total savings vary based on the cost of electricity, cost of water in each jurisdiction and behavioral characteristics of the occupants.
Why would water-flow rate, high or low, make such a difference in my water and energy bills?
Standard kitchen and bathroom faucets, as well as showerheads, can use up to 3 gallons of water per minute. This means that a single shower or round of washing dishes may use up to 36 gallons of water – and usually warm water that is heated by electricity. Using energy-efficient kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators and showerheads can reduce that energy usage by nearly 50%.*
*According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
My current showerhead is an older model, and it’s screwed on very tightly. What if I can’t remove it?
If you’re not able to remove your showerhead by using the rubber easy-grip cloth included in your kit, you might have to use pliers. If you still can’t loosen it yourself, ask a friend or family member for assistance with the hand tools.
My water pressure in my house is already low. If I install water-efficient fixtures, will it reduce my water pressure even more?
Water-efficient fixtures and aerators mix air with water, which does have a slight impact on the amount of water pressure in your bathrooms and kitchen. These showerheads and aerators perform well at almost every water pressure due to pressure-compensation technology.
