JEA Board Removes $2 Branch Fee

Jacksonville, FL - Yesterday, the JEA Board voted to remove the $2 Branch Transaction Fee effective Thursday, November 22.

The Branch Transaction Fee was introduced October 1, 2009 as a temporary measure while JEA customers transitioned from in-person payments to electronic and third-party locations. Branch transactions exceeded 100,000 per month in 2002, and have been reduced to less than 30,000 per month currently. 

JEA has expanded the number of physical payment locations to more than 140 including Winn Dixie, Tax Collector and convenience stores. Electronic payments continue to expand and a pre-paid metering program will be introduced in 2013.

JEA customers have a variety of convenient billing and payment options.

• MyBudget takes the variability out of payments. This program averages the past 12 bills so customers pay close to the same amount each month and don’t have the big swings in their bill created by weather.
• JEA’s FREE eBill to receive bill electronically by email
• Pay online at jea.com
• Pay through your bank’s online bill payment option
• Pay by telephone using your checking or savings account
• Pay by mail
• Pay in person at JEA’s Downtown Office or at more than 140 convenient neighborhood locations including Winn Dixie stores and Tax Collector Offices
• Pay by automatic deduction from your checking account each month
• Pay by credit or debit card. There is a $4.95 charge for each $400 amount charged to your credit card

A public hearing is required in order to make any changes to fees or rates. The public hearing was held Tuesday, November 20. There were no public comments. Following the public hearing the Board voted to remove the $2 fee.
