Anticipated End Date: 2013-12-31
This project has been completed. Below is the information that was provided to customers prior to the project start date.

Roads Affected

Barnes Road, Carrevero Drive West, University Boulevard

Project Objective

A contractor (TB Landmark Construction, Inc.) working for JEA will be installing a new 20-inch and 24-inch sanitary sewer force main on Barnes Road from just north of University Boulevard (across University Boulevard) to Carrevero Drive West. Force mains are pressurized pipes used to transport sewage to wastewater treatment plants. This project is designed to proactively replace aging sewer infrastructure.

Construction Conditions

The new force main will be installed primarily by the traditional open cut method of construction within the City of Jacksonville road right of way (ROW) and existing utility easements. The contractor will be required to block one traffic lane during parts of sewer installation. Every effort will be made to ensure the flow of traffic is properly maintained. The contractor will install the new sewer pipe under University Boulevard using an underground drilling technology referred to as horizontal directional drilling or HDD. This construction method will allow for the installation of the new sewer main without having to open cut University Boulevard which will lessen the impact to the community and local traffic. The northbound lane on Barnes Road just north of University Boulevard (near Krystal's) will be temporarily closed for 2-3 weeks during the drilling activities. Traffic will still be maintained northbound using the existing southbound turn lane. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Restoration of Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the force main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
