Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, the contractor will work extended hours and weekends to complete the job as quickly and safely as possible.
Project Objective
A contractor working for JEA (Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc.) replaced a failing sanitary sewer manhole located on Bowlan Street north of Kona Avenue. This work was necessary to ensure the reliability of the sewer system that serves the neighborhood. Failures to sewer manholes can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.
Construction Conditions
Construction primarily occurred in the City of Jacksonville rights of way, roads and easements. Construction will primarily occur in the City of Jacksonville rights of way, roads and easements. This work required the removal of ground water with pump systems prior to construction, and pumps to temporarily by-pass the sewage during construction.
For the safety of our crews and the general public, JEA was be required to temporarily close Bowlan Street north of Kona Avenue.

Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area began after the manhole has been replaced, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing grass, sprinklers, pavement, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
