Project Objective

Project Update - April 5, 2019

We have great news! JEA crews have completed the project to replace the sanitary sewer manhole at the intersection of Deercreek Club Road East and McLaurin Road North. The road will be open as of 5 p.m. today, prior to the estimated completion date of April 30th. We will return to remove our construction equipment and complete final restoration of the project area over the next few weeks.

At the request of the Deercreek Homeowner’s Association paving contractor (Duval Asphalt), JEA installed the new sewer manhole lower to accommodate the future paving work. Drivers may notice a slight bump around the manhole temporarily until the final paving is completed.

We understand this construction was an inconvenience to the residents, employees and guests of the Deercreek subdivision and we appreciate your patience and understanding throughout.

Project Update - March 25, 2019

We appreciate continued patience of the Deercreek community while JEA crews work to replace a sanitary sewer manhole at the intersection of Deercreek Club Road East and McLaurin Road North. As can often happen during underground construction, unforeseen circumstances have resulted in a delay of the completion of this project.

The manhole being replaced is one of the deepest in our service territory at 20-feet deep, not including the additional depth we have to dig for construction. Unfortunately, with deep excavation underground construction, we don’t really know what we are dealing with until we actually dig down to uncover the problem area.

On any project, in order for crews to safely excavate, ground water must be removed and this area has an extremely high water table. In addition to working with a deep manhole and high water table, it appears that drainage socks were installed during development of the community that were not properly decommissioned. Instead of being filled with grout when no longer in use, these socks were left in place and have filled with ground water causing an additional, unexpected drainage/water problem for our crews.

We continue to address the removal of ground water and have just received the additional high capacity and submersible pumps required to complete the work. The removal of the ground water and metal sheeting in place are necessary to help keep our crews safe while digging.

We understand that these construction delays are a major inconvenience to the residents, employees and guests of the Deercreek subdivision.JEA crews will continue to work diligently to repair the manhole and open the road prior to the updated completion date ofApril 30, 2019.

Construction Conditions

Construction will occur in the City’s streets, rights of way and easements. For the safety of our crews and the general public, JEA will be required to temporarily close the intersection of Deercreek Club Road East and McLaurin Road North and detour traffic around the construction. Please plan ahead for delays.

Residents that live within the work area will be permitted to drive with caution through the construction area to their homes. Please observe all construction signs, detours, and general directions provided by the JEA crews working onsite.

Crews will be required to remove the ground water with pump systems prior to construction. These pump systems are required to operate continuously (24-7) during the repairs. We apologize in advance for any inconveniences.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the sewer manhole has been repaired, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
