Project Objective

A contractor working for JEA (Insituform Technologies) replaced a portion of the sanitary sewer main located on Evergreen Avenue between E. 47th Street and E. 55th Street. These existing sewer lines had reached the end of their useful service lives and were proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and to prevent any future sewer main breaks. Failures to sewer lines can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.

The majority of this project was completed using a trenchless lining technology that allows for the rehabilitation of the existing pipe with minimal disruption to the community. When construction conditions allow utilization of this technology, the amount of time to complete the project is greatly reduced. This technology also reduces the amount of time it would take to complete a similar project using traditional construction methods

Construction Conditions

Construction primarily occurred in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area typically begins 2-3 weeks after the new sewer line has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction was returned to its pre-construction condition.
