Florida Department of Transportation Project - Emerson Street Resurfacing

Project Objective

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began a resurfacing and improvement project on approximately one mile of Emerson Street (State Road 126) from Spring Park Road to the Hart Expressway in June 2016.  The $1.7 million project includes resurfacing, curb and gutter improvements, pedestrian signal upgrades including pedestrian countdown timers, and sidewalk replacement.

The project also includes resurfacing the Emerson Street on-ramp from Beach Boulevard (Taunton Road), and the Hart Expressway off-ramp to Beach Boulevard (Wilson Avenue). In conjunction with the project, JEA’s water main pipe will be replaced from Spring Park Road to north of Emerson Street.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project is scheduled to begin Wednesday and be complete in spring 2017. The contractor is Duval Asphalt Products, Inc. of Jacksonville. Construction will occur weekdays, with no lane closures allowed from 6 to 9 a.m. or from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Nightly detours will be scheduled for the ramp resurfacing and a traffic shift will be in place during the water main work.

Traffic Update – September 21, 2016

The northbound lane and southbound left turn lane of Spring Park Road at the Emerson Street intersection will close Wednesday night and a detour will be in place for several months for water main work as part of the Emerson Street (State Road 126) resurfacing and improvement project.

Northbound Spring Park Road traffic will detour east on Emerson Street, north on Galilee Road and west on Adirolf Road to Spring Park Road. Southbound Spring Park Road traffic will detour east on Adirolf Road and south on Galilee Road to Emerson Street. Businesses in the construction zone will have access at all times.

The project along one mile of Emerson Street from Spring Park Road to the Hart Expressway includes resurfacing, curb and gutter improvements, pedestrian signal upgrades, sidewalk repairs, and resurfacing the Emerson Street on-ramp and the Hart Expressway off-ramp at Beach Boulevard. In addition, JEA’s water main will be replaced on the north side of the street.
