Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2021-06-18
Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.*
*NOTE: In some circumstances, extended hours and weekends may be required.
Project Objective
A contractor working for JEA (Insituform Technologies) replaced a portion of the sanitary sewer lines on Hawthorne Street and Gregory Place. These existing sewer lines had reached the end of their useful service lives and needed to be proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and to prevent any future sewer main breaks. Failures to sewer lines can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues. This project start date was delayed due to work prioritization.
Construction Conditions
This project was completed using a trenchless lining technology that allows for the rehabilitation of the existing pipe with minimal disruption to the community. This technology also reduces the amount of time it would take to complete a similar project using traditional construction methods. Visit https://youtu.be/EkVTnfUpMjA to watch a video about the process.
Construction primarily occurred in the City of Jacksonville rights of way, roads and easements. For the safety of our crews and the general public, traffic was detoured around the project area (see map below).
Project Area Map
Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area will begin typically 2-3 weeks after the new sewer main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
Even Better Power Reliability
JEA's state-of-the-art technology identifies customers and neighborhoods in need of electric reliability improvements.
