Project Objective

JEA completed construction on an important electric reliability improvement project that took place along the existing electric transmission corridor between Hodges Boulevard and Seven Pines Island.

This work included removing the existing poles and wires, and replacing them with upgraded infrastructure that meets our current electric transmission standards. We also installed 13 new concrete electric transmission poles, and removing the old poles that had reached the end of their useful service lives. This project will increase electric reliability and provide JEA the capability to continue to serve future growth in the area.

Construction Conditions

JEA was required to remove and clear trees and vegetation along the project route. These removals were required to install the new poles and to safely operate the new transmission lines once they were energized. Installation of the poles was completed first, followed by the installation and pulling of the new power lines prior to being energized. There was heavy construction equipment located along the transmission line path, and the contractor also staged materials along the right-of-way as they worked their way through the project.

Most of the equipment and work took place near each pole installation site along the project route within the transmission corridor. During the pole installations, there were large escorted trucks entering and leaving Hodges Boulevard near Gerona Drive N, San Pablo Road S, and Castaway Drive at Pine Island Drive-Blackbeard Drive to drop off transmission poles at each installation site.
