Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2023-09-29
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.*
*In some circumstances, extended hours and weekends may be required.
Project Objective
A contractor working for JEA (UMX) structurally repaired the steel H-piling that supports one of the JEA electric transmission towers in the Intracoastal waterway canal area (see below map for details). This work is considered standard maintenance for these structures and once is expected to last over 30 years.
Construction Conditions
The work included the chipping of the existing concrete encasement to expose the H-piling; sand blasting the H-piling; drilling holes in the existing H-piling and bolting on new steel as required. The contractor encapsulated the H-piling with a fiberglass and epoxy grout system for long term corrosion protection.
