Estimated Dates & Work Schedule

Anticipated Start Date: 2019-06-24
Anticipated End Date: 2019-07-31

Project Objective

A contractor working for JEA (Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc.) has completed work to replace a failing sanitary sewer manhole located on Ivanhoe Road at the intersection of Ortega Forest Drive. Restoration of the project area is scheduled for August 2019.

As this manhole was approximately 20-feet deep, extensive dewatering to remove ground water with pump systems was required. These pump systems operated continually throughout the project. For the safety of our crews, metal sheet piling was installed prior to excavation and replacement of the sewer manhole.

Crews had to remove the contents (sewage) of the manhole and adjacent sewer lines while the new manhole was being installed. To do this, we were required to install a temporary, above ground by-pass piping system to divert the gravity sewer during construction.

Construction Conditions

Construction primarily occurred in the City of Jacksonville rights of way, roads and easements. Please see the work area map below.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the manhole has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to pre-construction condition.
