Jacksonville Transportation Authority Girvin Road Widening Project

Project Objective

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) began a project in March 2016 on Girvin Road to reconstruct existing roadway to five lanes between Atlantic Boulevard and Ashley Melisse and three lanes between Ashley Melisse and McCormick. This work will included curb and gutter, sidewalks and bike lanes. Upon completion, this project will provide much needed capacity improvements and improve traffic conditions through the roadway corridor.

JEA Infrastructure Improvements

In an effort to resolve the conflicts between JEA’s existing utilities and the proposed roadway improvements, the utility reconstruction work was performed by JTA’s Design/Build firm via the terms of our existing Inter-Local Agreement.  JEA also added new water and sewer force mains within the project limits to improve the reliability of the systems.

This project was designed and managed by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. JEA works with our partner agencies to provide additional funding to upgrade, replace and/or relocate our facilities while they complete their work. This cooperation and coordination provides substantial cost savings to our customers and lessens the impact of construction in our community.
