JTA Kernan Blvd - Atlantic Boulevard to McCormick Road Roadway Improvement Project

This was a roadway widening project to reconstruct Kernan Boulevard from a four-lane to a six-lane urban roadway between Atlantic Boulevard and Matthew Unger Drive and four lanes from Matthew Unger Drive to McCormick Road. The road improvements included raised medians, curb and gutter, sidewalks, bike lanes, a 12-foot multi-use path on the eastside of the road and utility improvements.Upon completion, this project will provide much needed capacity improvements and improve traffic conditions through the roadway corridor.

JEA Infrastructure Improvements

In an effort to resolve the conflicts between JEA’s existing utilities and the proposed roadway improvements, the utility reconstruction work was performed by the Jacksonville Transporation Authority’s Design/Build firm via the terms of our existing Inter-Local Agreement. JEA also added new water and sewer force mains within the project limits to improve the reliability of the systems.
