King Street Electric Improvement Project

Estimated Dates & Work Schedule

Anticipated End Date: 2024-08-09

Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.*

Project Objective

JEA will soon be in your area upgrading some of the electrical equipment that serves your neighborhood. A contractor working for JEA (Heart Utilities) will be installing new protective conduit and electric cables on King Street from Herschel Street to Oak Street.

The contractor will install the new conduit with a technique called horizontal directional drilling (HDD). HDD requires very little excavation, reduces construction duration, and is less disruptive to the surrounding community.

Once completed, this project will help to proactively improve the overall quality and reliability of your electric service.

Construction Areas

Construction will primarily occur in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and easements.

Construction Conditions

For the safety of crews and the public, there will be temporary, intermittent lane closures and detours on King Street between Herschel Street and Oak Street while crews are actively working. Access to businesses will be maintained during this time. Please see the work area map below.

Construction will primarily occur in the City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements. Landscaping and vegetation removal may be required in the rights-of-way along the project route. This project will require several pieces of equipment to be set up in the immediate area, as well as large trucks parked along the street and in the rights-of-way during construction. There may be times when driveways are temporarily blocked while crews are working in the area. Crews will knock on doors to provide time to move vehicles prior to blocking any driveways.

Residents, businesses and business patrons will be provided access and will be permitted to drive (with caution) through the work area. For the safety of our crews and the general public, we will be required to detour traffic around the work area while crews are actively working. Please observe all signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site.

Planned Power Outages

Customers may experience brief power outages as a result of this work. Customers will be notified prior to any prolonged (more than 1 hour) planned electric outages.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin soon after the project has been completed. Any existing grass, sprinklers, pavement, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
