Project Objective
A contractor working for JEA (Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc.) replaced approximately 3,323 linear feet of potable water main along Luna Street between Rayford Street and Dellwood Avenue, other surrounding streets including Union Hall Place and Luna Court, and a portion of Gilmore Street between Luna Street and Melba Street (please see work area map below). These pipes had reached the end of their useful service lives and had to be proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the JEA water system in the area. This work also included the installation of six (6) new fire hydrants. This project will provide increased water pressure, fewer unplanned water repairs, fewer unplanned water outages and enhanced fire protection to the area.
Construction Conditions
For the safety of crews and the general public, there were periods when area roads had limited access or detoured while the contractor was installing the new water line. The contractor was required to open, close and detour work areas on several occasions over the course of the project. Motorists were permitted to drive (with caution) through the construction area to access their homes and businesses during pipe installation.

Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area will typically begin 2-3 weeks after the sewer main has been repaired, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
