Memorial Park - Lenox Pump Station Sewer Improvement Project
Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2018-08-31
Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
NOTE: Occasional night and weekend work hours may be necessary. Start and completion dates are subject to change.
Project Objective
The purpose of this project was to replace a portion of the aging sanitary sewer infrastructure that serves the neighborhood. The existing sewer pump station and pipes reached the end of their service lives and needed to be proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and to prevent future sewer main breaks.
This work included the installation of 3,400 linear feet of 20-inch sanitary sewer force main along Lenox Avenue, Normandy Boulevard, and the intersection of Old Middleburg Road and Memorial Park Road. JEA also installed two (2) sewer pipes under I-295 using the horizontal directional drilling method (HDD) of construction to minimize traffic impacts to the area. The installation of two (2 ) sewer pipes under I-295 was to provide system redundancy/reliability in the event one should fail in the future. Sanitary sewer force mains are pressurized sewer pipes used to transport sewage to JEA wastewater treatment plants.
As part of this overall reliability project, JEA also constructed a new sewer pump station and demolished the existing pump station at 7696 Lenox Ave. The existing Lenox pump station encountered operational issues during both Hurricane’s Matthew and Irma. Its upgrade was required to provide system reliability and handle future flows from growth and development.
Construction Conditions
Construction primarily occurred in the City of Jacksonville and Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) rights of way, roads and easements.
Restoration of Project Area
Restoration of the project area will begin after the new sewer force main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
