Pirates Cove Road Sewer Improvement Project

Project Objective
A contractor working for JEA (T.B. Landmark) will soon be working in your area to install a new sanitary sewer force main on Pirates Cove Road from Ortega Boulevard to the JEA lift station near 4990 Morven Road. The existing section of sewer main has reached the end of its useful service life and must be proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the sewer system that serves your neighborhood. Sanitary sewer force mains are pressurized sewer pipes used to transport sewage to JEA wastewater treatment plants. Failures to sewer mains can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.
The contractor will install the new sewer lines using the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) method of construction. Directional drilling, or HDD, is a steerable, trenchless method of installing underground utilities. This method greatly reduces the overall project duration and is typically less disruptive to the community.
Construction Conditions
Construction will occur in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and easements. For the safety of our crews and the general public, we will be required to temporarily close the sidewalk near the corner of Ortega Boulevard and Pirates Cove Road, and temporarily close portions of Pirates Cove Road as crews move along the project route to complete this work. Please see the work area map below.
Residents and/or businesses will be provided access to their driveways and will be permitted to drive (with caution) through the work area. Driveways may be temporarily blocked during the day during construction. Crews will notify residents by knocking on the door prior to blocking any driveway. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on site. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this work. This work will not impact your JEA electric, water and/or sewer service.

Restoration of Project Area
Restoration of the project area will begin after the new sewer force main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
