Powhattan Street Sewer Improvement Project

Project Objective

The purpose of this project is to replace a portion of the aging sanitary sewer infrastructure that serves your area. These pipes have reached the end of their service lives and need to be proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and to prevent any future sewer main breaks.

This work will include the replacement of a manhole and the replacement of approximately 240 linear feet of the existing sanitary sewer gravity main on 5th Street West from 1727 5th Street West to 1747 5th Street West at Powhattan Street.

Construction Conditions

Construction will primarily occur in the City of Jacksonville rights of way, roads and easements. The contractor will be required to temporarily close portions of 5th Street West and Powhattan Street to thru-traffic to complete the installation of the new sanitary sewer main. These closures are necessary for both the safety of the workers and the general public.

Residents who reside within the project boundaries will be provided access to their homes and are permitted to drive (with caution) within the construction area. There will be times during the day when customers may have limited access when the contractor is working directly in front of homes or businesses. In addition, sections of driveways may be required to be removed and replaced to install the pipe. Residents and business owners will be notified in advance by crews to allow for removal of vehicles prior to driveway construction.

This construction will not interfere with your normal JEA water and/or sewer service. No planned water outages are expected during this project.

Restoration of Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the new sewer main has been installed, tested and cleared for use.  Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
