Project Objective

JEA completed work in the Queen’s Harbour community to replace a failing sanitary sewer manhole and adjacent piping that leads to the sewer pump station located at 581 Queen’s Harbor Boulevard. The manhole and piping had reached the end of their useful service lives and needed to be proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the sewer system that serves the community. Failures to sewer manholes and lines can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.

Construction Conditions

For the safety of our crews and the general public, were required to temporarily close and detour traffic from the northbound traffic lane of Queen’s Harbor Boulevard while we completed this work (see map below). Electronic message boards were placed to notify motorists of the road closures, and traffic will be detoured onto the southbound lane, using portable light signals. These signals typically work much better than using traditional flag personnel, as they are timed to change every 1-2 minutes and can be utilized 24-7. We will also installed lights at driveways within the detour area to assist residents will getting in and out of their driveways. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) was also on-site for the first few days of the detour and as needed.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area began after the new sewer manhole and lines were installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction were returned pre-construction condition.
