Project Objective

JEA is continuing working in your neighborhood upgrading and replacing the main electric feeder line that serves your area. When completed, this work will increase the amperage capacity of the power line, thereby reducing chances of overloading the circuit which can lead to unplanned power outages. The new upgraded feeder will be able to handle three times the capacity as the old feeder. In addition, JEA will also be replacing any old or deteriorated power poles with larger wooden poles along the project route, as well as installing new conductor, trip savers, transformers and hook switches, which will also provide for better power quality and reliability.

This work will take place along portions of Gibson Avenue, Turton Avenue, Ribault Avenue, and within the JEA facility located at 4205 Soutel Drive. Work will occur along the City of Jacksonville rights-of-ways and utility easements, and will not include the individual electric meters for homes or businesses.

Construction Conditions

Proper vegetative clearance and/or tree removals will be required along the project route around JEA poles and facilities to allow the project to move forward. The vegetative management objectives will be to enhance the benefits and mitigate the hazards of both the electrical service and existing tree canopy. JEA tree crews receive additional training on how to maintain sensitive tree canopies and target new growth approaching JEA lines (the line at the top of most utility poles).

Learn more about our goal of balancing a tree's health with safety and electric reliability at www.jea.com/treetrimming. Customers are encouraged to contact JEA Tree Care at (904) 665-6050 or at JEATreeCare@JEA.com with any questions they may have regarding trees and utilities.

Residents can expect large utility trucks in the area as work progresses. Prior to placement, utility poles may be dropped off or temporarily staged in the public right-of-way. Customers may experience some detours and lane closures around the work area while this work is in progress. Traffic control personnel may be utilized to help direct traffic around the construction area.  There may be times when driveways are temporarily blocked while crews are working in the immediate area. Crews will knock on doors to provide time to move vehicles prior to blocking any driveways. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site.

Planned Power Outages

There may be a brief interruption to your electric service when crews transfer from the existing electric system to the newly installed infrastructure. Customers will be notified in advance of any planned power outages (lasting more than 2 hours).

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project will begin after the project has been completed. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
