Riverside Avenue Water Improvement Project
Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2016-07-31
This project has been completed. Below is the information that was provided to customers prior to the project start date.
Project Objective
JEA will be replacing and upgrading 500 feet of the existing 2-inch water main with a 6-inch water main on Riverside Avenue from McDuff Avenue South to Donald Street. When completed, this project will increase water pressure and provide improved system reliability.
Construction Method
The contractor will primarily install the new water main with a technique called directional drilling. Directional drilling requires very little excavation, reduces construction duration, and is less disruptive to the surrounding community. Once drilling operations are underway, it may be necessary for the contractor to work extended hours until the drill is complete.
Construction Conditions
Construction will be done in the City’s rights of way and easements. There will be times when your road will have limited access while the water main is being installed.
Temporary Detour
JEA will be required to temporarily close the east bound lane of Riverside Avenue from Donald Street to McDuff Avenue South, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to complete installation of the new water main.
Traffic will be detoured down Donald Street to St. Johns Avenue and down St. Johns Avenue back to McDuff Avenue South. Detour signs will be set-up to guide drivers around the construction area.
Water Outages
Some customers will experience minor interruptions to their water service. JEA will notify customers 48 hours prior to any planned outages. Residents may also experience a brief (10 to 15 minutes) outage while crews transfer your home from the old water service to the new water service.
Restoration of Project Area
Restoration of the project area will begin once the water lines are installed and have been tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
*Start and completion dates are subject to change and in some circumstances, night, weekend and extended hours may be necessary.
Even Better Power Reliability
JEA's state-of-the-art technology identifies customers and neighborhoods in need of electric reliability improvements.
