Project Objective

Working in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, a contractor working for JEA (JB Coxwell Contracting, Inc.) upgraded and replaced  twenty-four (24) street lights in the Springfield area. The new street lights were installed on both sides of the street along N. Main Street between E. 1st Street and W. State Street (see map below).

The old light poles had reached the end of their useful service lives and needed to be proactively replaced to ensure reliability of the street lighting in the area. The new street lights are energy efficient, decorative and provide for a brighter and safer Springfield community.

The previous aluminum poles with the cobra head style lights were upgraded to historic acorn style street lights. These new street lights match the ones currently in place on N. Main Street between E. 1st Street and E. 12th Street. In addition to upgrading the style of the street lights, energy efficient LED light bulbs were installed, and we are keeping the old light pole bases in storage for future use.

Following the light pole installations, our contractor completed the underground portion of the work necessary to connect the electric service to power the new streetlights.
