Van Wert Avenue Water Improvement Project

Estimated Dates & Work Schedule

Anticipated Start Date: 2020-07-27
Anticipated End Date: 2020-12-31

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.*

*NOTE: In some circumstances, extended hours and weekends may be required. JEA will not work on City of Jacksonville holidays.

Project Objective

JEA replaced a portion of the potable water lines on Van Wert Avenue between St. Johns Avenue and Hedrick Street. This work also included the installation of two (2) new fire hydrants. This project will increase water pressure and provide improved system reliability and fire protection.

Construction Conditions

Construction will occur in the City of Jacksonville streets, rights of way and easements. For the safety of our crews and the general public, temporary lane closures may be required along Van Wert Avenue while the pipe is being installed. Temporary road closures may also be required at intersections when tying the new water main into the existing water main. Please see the below map of the project area.

Motorists will typically be permitted to drive (with caution) through the construction area. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on site. We apologize in advance for delays caused by this work.

Water Outages

Some customers will experience minor interruptions to their water service. JEA will notify customers 48 hours prior to any planned outages. Residents may also experience a brief (10 to 15 minutes) outage while crews transfer customers from the old water service to the new water service.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin approximately 2-3 weeks once the new water main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
