W 1st Street Sewer Improvement Project

Project Objective
JEA crews replaced a sanitary sewer manhole near 5406 W. 1st Street. This manhole had reached the end of its useful service life and had to be proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the sewer system that serves the area. Failures to sewer manholes can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.
Construction Conditions
Construction occurred in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and easements. For the safety of our crews and the general public, we were required to temporarily close and detour traffic on W. 1st Street between Edgewood Avenue N. and Ellis Road N. to complete this work.

Restoration of Project Area
Restoration of the project area will typically begin 2-3 weeks after the new sewer manhole has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned pre-construction condition.
