Project Objective

A contractor working for JEA (T.B. Landmark Construction) replaced and upgraded a portion of the water line on Water Street between S. Pearl Street and Broad Street in Downtown Jacksonville. This pipe approached the end of its useful service life and was proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the JEA water system in the area. This project will provide increased water pressure and improved system reliability for the area.

The majority of the water line installation will be performed using a technique called horizontal directional drilling (HDD). HDD requires very little excavation, reduces construction duration, and is less disruptive to the surrounding community.

Construction Conditions

Construction primarily occurred in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project area typically begins 2-3 weeks after the new water line has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction was returned to its pre-construction condition.
