Project Objective

The purpose of this project is to replace a portion of the aging sanitary sewer infrastructure that serves your neighborhood. These pipes have reached the end of their service lives and need to be proactively replaced to increase the reliability of the sewer system and to prevent any future sewer main breaks.

This work will include the replacement of the existing 8-inch sanitary sewer force main that serves your area. The new pipe will be upgraded to a 10-inch sanitary sewer force main. Sanitary sewer force mains are pressurized sewer pipes used to transport sewage to JEA wastewater treatment plants.  Learn more about the process of wastewater treatment.

Detour Areas / Roads Affected

The sewer force main will be replaced along Wedgefield Boulevard from 2509 Wedgefield Boulevard to Elvia Drive. JEA will be required to close the northbound travel lane of Wedgefield Boulevard during regular working hours for the duration of the project. Eastbound traffic along Wedgefield Drive will be detoured to Arble Drive to Congaree Drive West to Elvia Drive and back to Wedgefield Boulevard (see attached detour map). JTA will be required to temporarily detour all bus traffic for the duration of the project.

Construction Conditions

Construction will primarily occur in the City of Jacksonville and Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) rights of way, roads and easements. The contractor may be required to temporarily close portions of roads to thru-traffic to complete the installation of the new sewer force main. These closures are necessary for the both the safety of the workers and the general public.

Residents who reside within the project boundaries will be provided access to their homes and are permitted to drive (with caution) within the construction area. There will be times during the day when customers may have limited access when the contractor is working directly in front of homes or businesses. In addition, sections of driveways may be required to be removed and replaced to install the pipe. Residents and business owners will be notified in advance by crews to allow for removal of vehicles prior to driveway construction.

Restoration of Project Area

Restoration of the project area will begin after the new force main has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Upon completion of the project, any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
